Why not make it 100 tick? From my own experience I find higher tick servers run smoother. Please correct if I'm wrong.

100 tic = more cpu intensive.

    1) We tried 100 tick for a while on the last server (when it was functioning properly), and it didn't seem to help anything, and may have possibly hurt more than helped.

    2) If I understand it correctly, 100 tick is just not going to help at average internet speeds, and is best left for LAN play.

    3) Our new host charges at a higher tier for 100 tick servers, and we are still really only taking this server for a test run so it wouldn't be worth it at the moment.

However we should contact them and ask about trying out 66 tick.

Thanks Lady, but Roachy is doing all the hard stuff and spending all the time and effort into adding all the plug-ins, admin database, etc.... It will take some time to get everything just right, and as Roachy said, this may just be a temp thing until we either get the old server back up and running as it use to, or stay with the new one. We will keep you all informed on what we decide to do as it comes up. And thanks again for all the kind words from all of you. At least we know we do some things right sometimes!!

I notice a signficant difference on 100 tic servers that allow interpolate 0. These are mostly league servers though, and not your day-to-day pub servers. A better question is, why aren't we going with 66 tick? Its currently only set at 33. Maybe this is something that has to be editted in the config file? The old server was 66 tick.

edit: ooops, didnt read last sentence. yeah, 66 tick is the way to go. i've never even heard of 33 tick before.

The new server is running very smoothly. I haven't really gotten much in the way of lag spikes or anything like that. I will say though that to me anyway it still seems a little "slow". I think I can explain it a little bit; things like iron sights and scoping/unscoping seems to take longer on the GA server than some other pubs I've recently played in. (Usually not by choice GA's been full or on Strand *blech*.)

Other times my input and what happens in the server seems delayed or slowed. The best example I can think of are the fire-as-fast-as-you-click guns, the Allied Carbine and pistols specifically. In these other pubs I can whip out the carbine, face a wall in spawn and blaze through a clip by tapping like crazy on mouse 1. If I try to do the same thing in the GA server clicking about as fast as I did in the other server one of two things usually happen. First I'll get about 3/4 through the clip before it stops firing for a minute and then I have to pause and stat clicking again to get through the rest of the clip OR I'll get through the whole clip but significantly slower than the speed at which I was clicking.

I'm not trying to knock the server or anything like that I'd still play any day since the community makes it so fun. It just makes me feel better to be able to explain how the server feels "off" to me instead of jsut saying "off". Has anyone else noticed this or maybe it's just me and my connection to Atlanta? I have no idea where the other servers are located specifically but probably somewhere on the US East Coast or Central based on my pings.

It's all a tradeoff. The slowness you're experiencing is from the reduced tick rate of 33. This is the amount of information that can be sent between your computer and the server measured in some unit of time (milliseconds i think). So while the server is consistently more stable, its most likely due to less information transfer occuring. The old server, when it was stable months ago, was obviously a better option. Like roachy said, this is just a temporary sollution until the politcs of the situation can be sorted out.

Some of you might be saying, well my ping has been just fine on the new server and so it must be just as good or better. Remember, ping is just a measure of the time it takes information to travel between your computer and the server, not HOW MUCH information is being sent. Tick rate is a measure of the AMOUNT of info being sent. Tick rates are almost more important because they are directly related to shot registration and other more technical aspects of the game.
